AWARDS
High quality “Stars & Stripes” medallions will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in forms and 1st, 2nd, and two 3rd places will be awarded in sparring. This is a Grass Roots tournament with a national feel. We will do our best to break down the children's divisions so that everyone will receive a medallion. We will also have participation medals available. Coaches, we would like this to be an enjoyable event so if you need anything, please feel free to ask.
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
All participants must wear a white uniform in good condition. Protective Gear: forearm pads, shin & instep pads, mouthpiece, headgear, groin cup (male students only), USAT approved chest protector. Eyeglasses are not allowed for the safety of both competitors.
Black Belt Divisions age 14 to 32 will be required to wear the Lajust socks. You must purchase the Lajust socks in advance because they will not be available for purchase at the tournament.
The body protector will be provided by the tournament for Black Belts 32 and under.
Black Belts 13 and under will fight with Lajust but on a pressure only setting. No socks will be required.
Once again, Socks will not be available for purchase the day of the event. You must bring your own socks. They can be ordered online at www.lajustsports.com 
Sparring (Gyoroogi)
WEIGH-IN: All sparring competitors must weigh-in. Weigh-in will be available October 7th at the Headquarters Hotel, and 8th at the event site only, please see the schedule for detailed times.
RULES: A complete explanation of rules and answers to all questions will be given at the MANDATORY coaches and officials meeting. However current USAT rules will apply.

Note: Children's safety and integrity of the competition is ALWAYS our priority All Black Belts will fight in a Double Elimination format. 14 - 32 will fight Three 90 second rounds with a 30 second break. All other competitors will fight Two 60 second rounds with a 30 second break.

Forms (Poomse)
We will use modified USAT/WTF rules for this event. Only WTF forms will be recognized.
* Single-elimination, bracketed format.
* Two competitors shall perform patterns simultaneously.
* Merit will be awarded on the basis of beauty, grace, rhythm, focus, power, and technique.
* Three judges shall be seated as in sparring competition.
* At referee’s command judges shall press the corresponding blue or red button for the competitor deemed to have the better performance according to aforementioned criteria of merits.
* The winner of the round will be indicated by one point on the scoreboard and will then advance to the next round of competition.
* Black belts will not be allowed to start over.
* Colored belts may perform their current form or the form from their previous belt only.
* Black Belts must perform * 1st Dan black belts must perform Koryo, * 2nd Dan black belts must perform Kuemgang * 3rd Dan black belts must perform Taebaek * 4th Dan and above Pyungwon or higher form
Please Note:
Any division with fewer than 4 competitors may be eliminated and combined with another division closest in size and/or rank level. Any division with more than 10 competitors may be divided into smaller divisions. A change of any division and all byes are done at the discretion of the Tournament Chairperson and/or Tournament Director and/or Division Coordinator. Also: If there is only one competitor in a division in any event, that competitor has the option of receiving 1st place or being moved into the next division.
Referees
Stars & Stripes referees will receive a complimentary Stars & Stripes Taekwondo Open tournament t-shirt, however, all officials please wear dark pants with white shirt and tie. We have arranged a hospitality room for all referees with complimentary lunch and drinks throughout the day. Also please arrive before 8:30am for the mandatory coaches and officials meeting.
